1. Lost Dutchman State Park Campground
Located just east of the Phoenix, the Lost Dutchman State Park campground is a great location for desert camping in the cooler months of the year. For those who like to camp with amenities, this is the place for you — in addition to its 134 tent sites, it offers flush toilets, showers and grills.
2. Lynx Lake Campground
A 15-minute drive from Prescott and ¼ mile from the beautiful Lynx Lake, this popular campground offers a nice escape from urban living. The nearby trails provide ample space for hiking, running, biking and horseback riding. There are toilets and drinking water available on site. If boating and fishing are your cup of tea, the Sinkhole campground near Payson boasts a boat ramp on the shore of the well-stocked Willow Springs Lake. The site offers 26 very clean and paved campsites dotting this stretch of the Mogollon Rim. 4. Canyon Point Campground
Another great beginning camper spot, this Payson-area site offers enough amenities to keep you comfortable. Because its huge campground is very popular with locals and travelers alike, plan on making your reservations at least a few weeks in advance. 5. Lockett Meadow Campground
The Lockett Meadow campground, nestled on the side of the San Francisco Peaks, is a grassy meadow as wide as a football field, surrounded by the largest aspen stand in the state. Conditions are more primitive in this campground, which can only be accessed by high-clearance vehicles. This Flagstaff-area site closes for the winter when snow blocks the road and opens up again around mid-April.

6. Manzanita Campground
The most popular of the Sedona camping sites, the Manzanita Campground is located just south of Slide Rock State Park in scenic Oak Creek Canyon. Eight of the sites are first-come, first serve. All sites at this beautiful location fill up quickly, so come early and during the weekdays to have a chance at one of these prime campsites.
