Get to Know LPGA Pro Olivia Mehaffey
Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club is proud to have a number of professional golfers on our member roster, including Ladies European Tour Pro Olivia Mehaffey. We caught up with the Irish beauty and Arizona State grad to pick her brain about golf and why she loves life at the peak.
How did you first get into golf?
I first got into golf through my dad and brother. I always wanted to go with
them and try to beat my brother.
If you could give someone just starting out
in the game one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would say to start with some friends and to enjoy it. It’s easier to
stay motivated, relax and enjoy the game and encourage each other
when you start with friends or family.
What’s the most memorable tournament you’ve
played and why?
My most memorable tournament was winning NCAA Team championships my
first year at Arizona State. It was extremely fun to win with my teammates
and this was our goal for the whole year so reaching it
was very satisfying.
Who would be in your dream foursome and where
would it be played?
Tiger Woods, Seve Ballesteros and Serena
Williams at Augusta National.
Favorite club in your bag and why?
My putter. It’s always been the best part of my game, is my favorite thing
to practice and I love the different components involved in putting.
Any pre-round superstitions? I try not to be superstitious. I just have
a similar routine I keep before I play. I always do a warmup at the gym or
hotel room to get my body moving, I have a program from my trainer that I
follow. Then I normally warm up for one hour at the course before playing,
it consists of hitting balls, putting and chipping.
How would you describe Superstition Mountain
Golf and Country Club?
Beautiful, peaceful, calm and
welcoming.
Which course is your favorite, Lost Gold or
Prospector?
Lost Gold. I love the new greens and the challenge it provides.
Do you have a favorite hole at Superstition,
if so what makes it your favorite?
Hole 18 on Prospector. It is a beautiful hole
and extremely picturesque, especially when finishing at sunset.
I also think it’s a great finishing hole and can provide a
good birdie chance, or you could just as easily
make bogey.
In your opinion, what is the best thing about
being a member at Superstition?
I would say the environment and the membership. I love
how friendly and welcoming it is, everyone is very supportive and caring.
The condition of the courses, and having two amazing courses to play, is also
hard to beat.
Be sure to root for Olivia this season, you can follow her on Instagram at @oliviamehaffey, and say hello if you see her out on the course. Learn more about some of Superstition’s other pro golfers here: /golf/lpga-tour-players
