Honoring A Legacy
We’ve said it before but it continues to ring true, the
people are the heart of what makes Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club
so exceptional. Our tight-knit membership has become like a family who support
and celebrate one another.
In that vein, the members and our owner’s association
stepped up in a big way to honor the life and legacy of James Hladky. The
installation of a 16 foot
memorial clock in our garden circle stands as a beautiful tribute to James and
a symbol of appreciation for the entire Hladky family. Since they took over the
club in 2009, they have worked diligently to make Superstition a vibrant and
thriving private golf club and gated community. They protect the best interests
of our membership and staff, and their hard work and dedication has built
Superstition into what it is today.
Members had the opportunity to leave their mark and provide
personal tributes to James Hladky with customized plaques. Two example
dedications are below:
“A pessimist complains about the wind. An optimist expects it to change. A leader adjusts the sails.” ~John Maxwell. Thank you James for adjusting the sails and getting SMGCC back on course.
Thank you, James Hladky. In 2010 James Hladky acquired Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club out of receivership. He did not live to see his vision to completion, but thanks to his foresight and substantial investment, the club and community have once again become “a great place to live and play.”
If you joined the club after 2013, you may not know its
history or the incredible impact the Hladky family has had. Allow us to give
you a brief history lesson:
Our first course, Prospector, opened in 1998 with Lost Gold
following in 1999 and our stunning, 50,000 square-foot, Tuscan-inspired
clubhouse opening its doors in 2000.
When the economy crashed in 2008 the property went into
receivership and was forced to open to public play. With uncertainty
surrounding the club’s future, James Hladky stepped up in 2009 and purchased
the Club’s assets out of receivership. In fact, legend has it he struck the
deal on the courtroom steps as the previous owner was about to file for
bankruptcy.
Sadly, James passed soon after and the club was taken over
by his wife Susan and their family. The Hladkys wholeheartedly continued the
mission of making Superstition Mountain a place where outstanding amenities and
service would combine with genuine friendships.
On January 1, 2014 Superstition
Mountain Golf & Country Club celebrated the return to
completely private status. In spite of these challenges, or perhaps because of
them, more than a decade later Superstition Mountain remains stronger and more spectacular
than ever. This revitalization is a testament to the vision of James and the dedication
of the entire Hladky family.
Superstition Mountain is like no other property. The beauty
of that magic mountain and sincere warmth of the membership creates a prevailing
sense of peace and tranquility from the very moment you drive through the
gates.
We are forever grateful to James and the Hladky family for their unwavering belief in Superstition Mountain.
Here’s to you James. We think you would be proud to live and play at Superstition Mountain.
