Your Guide to Golf Apparel
New golfers, and pros alike, want to look and feel good on the course. Previous blogs have brought you 5 Golf Fashion Trends for Fall and Golf Fashion Trends for Spring and now we’ve compiled basic tips you can use year-round.
Brand Names
Most of the golf apparel lines out there offer quality designs and craftsmanship, so it really comes down to personal preference. Among the most popular brands we see our club members sporting are Peter Millar, Greyson Clothiers, G/Fore, Ralph Lauren and LuLu Lemon. These brands offer men’s and women’s apparel as well as footwear. Johnnie O hoodies and outerwear are a personal favorite of our resident Golf Pro extraordinaire, Matt Brooks, because of their comfort and wearability.
Colors
Teal and purple remain among the most popular colors we see on the course along with thin striped polos and print pullovers. Aside from finding the color, patterns and style of clothing that suits you, when shopping for golf apparel look for moisture wicking, multi-stretch fabric with sun protection. Also, check labels for care instructions. Many of these items will be dry-clean only, if you aren’t willing to commit, look for machine washable options.
Trends
Over the past several years lifestyle pieces that work both on and off the course have become apparel staples. Golfers want dual-purpose (stylish!) clothes that transition seamlessly from the golf course to the lunch table, or would be something you want to throw on for weekend errands or dinner, even if you didn’t golf that day.
Brooks’ advice when it comes to golf apparel is simple: try a variety of different brands and styles to find what you like to wear and what will make you feel the most comfortable on the course. And he says you shouldn’t worry too much about what’s trending or your clothes going out of style, nothing is really outdated anymore. If a style goes out of fashion, it’ll regain popularity in few years anyway.

Etiquette
While there’s a general standard to follow, different clubs may have different apparel rules, so ask before you go or err on the side caution and follow standard guidelines. Below we’ve listed Superstition’s dress code for a reference.
GOLF ATTIRE (APPLIES TO GOLF COURSES AND PRACTICE FACILITIES)
- Men: Proper Golf attire is described as follows: Men: Shirt with collar and sleeves (mock collars included), slacks, Bermuda-length shorts. Shirts must be tucked in, unless designed specifically to be untucked (e.g. Tommy Bahama, Untuckit brand, other fashion-forward manufacturers). Fashions seen on the PGA tour are also acceptable. Tank tops, sport tee-shirts, sweat pants, warm-up suits, swimwear, short shorts, cut-offs, denim, gym shorts, tennis attire or other athletic shorts are not permitted. All headwear must be front-facing.
- Women: Dresses, skirts, slacks, shorts of reasonable length, blouses, collarless shirts with sleeves, or sleeveless shirts with collars are considered appropriate attire (top does not need to be tucked). Fashions seen on the LPGA tour are also acceptable. Halter tops, tank tops, sport tee-shirts, mesh shirts, sweat pants, warm-up suits, swimwear, short shorts, cut-offs, denim, gym shorts, tennis attire or other athletic shorts are not permitted. All headwear must be front-facing. Shoes: Appropriate golf shoes are required for all golfers. Football, soccer or other large knobby spike shoes, non-golf specific sandals or flip flops are not allowed. Tennis shoes or other soft sole shoes are subject to the approval of the golf professional on duty. Use of traditional metal spikes is not permitted.
Unlike many private clubs, at Superstition denim is permitted in the dining room, bar and patio at all times, but we ask that you dress it up, not down (no holes, rips or tears; no cut-offs; must be worn at the waist).
